Lacking Motivation?

Motivation is a major contributor in attaining goals and accomplishing tasks. However, once a goal is attained, motivation can be diminished if other goals are not set or obstacles to attaining future goals arise. What can be done when motivation is lacking?

1. Take a break

After accomplishing a long-term goal, or several short-term goals, it might be a good idea to take a break before setting or attaining new goals. Taking a break allows you to evaluate whether future goals still align with your overall goals and objectives. Additionally, after completing a major goal, future goals and objectives may have changed or become irrelevant.

2. Set new goals

This would be the perfect time to examine what is now important to you. If any changes have occurred or if your values no longer align with previously set goals, you should set new goals. Setting new goals should reignite your motivation.

3. Determine how obstacles can be overcome

Obstacles arise. It's part of life. However, when anything disrupts our flow motivation can take a hit. When this happens, we need to make decisions on how to proceed. Under these circumstances you should consider whether your values have changed. If not, take a step back and create goals to overcome the obstacles. If your values have changed, create goals and objectives that align with your new or current values.

Motivation propels us to achieve goals and objectives. When motivation is lacking we become stagnate. This can be a detriment to our health and well-being and to our lives. While it is normal to occasionally become unmotivated, it is important to find a way to regain motivation and forward momentum, as setting and achieving goals improves self-esteem and self-efficacy.
